- Competition Success
Devon Clubs Print & Projected Image Battle
In case you have not heard, Crediton Photography Club notched up an outstanding performance at the Devon Clubs’ Print & Projected Image Battle on 17th May. We were outright winners of the Print Panel competition for the second successive occasion.
Read about how the Primary Reflections Panel was created.
The Panel will be on Public Display in Lee’s Outfitters’ window during August/September, to give the club some pre-season publicity.
- New Crediton Town Guide
Crediton Town Council are publishing a new town guide and the club has agreed to produce the photographs for this. Gabi Tayler has recently represented the club at a project committee meeting and will shortly e-mail members with details of what is required. To avoid duplication, it is proposed that members who are interested in taking part should cover designated subjects from a list.
- Club 2008 Exhibition in September
Throughout September, the club will be staging its usual exhibition in Crediton
Library and every member is entitled to have his or her work included.
Members need to prepare prints for this exhibition over the next few weeks. Prints for exhibition should be mounted to a good standard and the overall size of the mounts should be standardised at 300mm by 400mm. The prints themselves can be any shape or size as long as they fit within this standard mount size.
We will try & include at least two prints by each member, but you may submit more if you wish.
Prints for exhibition should be delivered to Norman Hedge or Gabi Tayler no later than Sunday 24th August 2008. - Club Project for 2008/9 Season
Crediton's 1100'th Anniversary
The club has agreed to support the programme of events marking Crediton’s 1100th anniversary, which culminate in the Summer of 2009. We have booked exhibition space in the library for June 2009. Between now & then members are invited to build a portfolio under the broad heading “Crediton Today”. A separate note is being circulated giving details of the project including suggested themes. Some members will recall a superb book of monochrome Crediton images published at the Millennium by a group of present & former members, including Cyril, Terry, Ken & Ian. The 2008/9 project is in no way meant to compete with that body of work and we hope everyone will bring their individual style and “take” on the contemporary life of the town.

Looking forward to the New Season
Plans are well advanced for next season’s programme & here are a few “tasters”. You should very shortly receive an e-mail copy of the programme, which will also be posted on the website.
Every member will be provided with the usual folded card copy at the time of re-enrolment.
Once again there will be four Club Competitions with the rules virtually the same as last year. Two will be on general themes, and the chosen themes for the other two are “Capturing Motion” and “Humour”.
The highly successful new format for competitions with the erstwhile South Devon League clubs will be repeated, with four-way competitions for prints and for digital projected images. As featured elsewhere in our newsletter, another end-of-season highlight will be the County-wide Print & Projected Images Battle…..can Crediton make it a hat-trick of wins?
We are starting to line up outside speakers and also participative evenings for Print Panels, Members’ workshops etc., so you can be assured that there will be something for everyone when we meet again on 19th September. -
Obituary….Paul Handy
Members who have taken part in our friendly exchanges with Dulverton Club will have come to know Paul Handy over the years, and we sadly have to report that Paul’s recent death. Paul was a perfect gentleman,a fine photographer and a leading light at Dulverton Club, which he had served and led for many years. He will be greatly missed by his club and his community and a great loss to amateur photography in Devon. -
New Season Start Date
The New season will start on Friday 19th September 2008 at the usual time and place, 7.30 p.m. at the Masonic Hall. To give our launch evening a bit more “Pep” we plan to get through the enrolment formalities as quickly as we can and to create time in the second half to see some members’ work. So do bring along a couple of prints or digital files from your summer photography…and of course a few new members as well! -
Keeping You Informed
Nearly all club members now have access to the internet and e-mail, so this year we are distributing the newsletter electronically, to save postage and stationery costs.
